WHEN RICKY HATTON WENT FALLING DOWN
Ricky Hatton falling down, falling down
Falling down
Ricky Hatton falling down
On the second!
And so goes the British bulldog, este, the British hitman who once boasted months ago that he can knock down the famed Pacman who is now making waves in the boxing scene once more with that eponymous victory in the second round in last Sunday's fight (Saturday night in Las Vegas, NV).
Now, it was a good thing that I did not score for tickets at either SM or Robinson's Cinemas (worth P500), or put a reservation under my name in any of the restaurants offering pay-per-view for the Pacquiao fight in exchange for their sumptuous buffet (around P300-P500 depending on which restaurant). Why? Because the fight only lasted two friggin' rounds! Woe to those who were at the cinemas because the ticket price did not include food. Buti pa ang mga nasa restaurants kasi kahit na maikli lang ang laban nina Pacman at Hatton, nasulit naman dahil sa pagkain.
But to those who tuned in on free TV via GMA 7 (ang Kapuso network), maaring nairita kayo sa sandamakmak na commercials... especially nung maglaban na sina Pacquiao at Hatton. It was only two rounds (3 minutes each) then the commercial loads went like 10 fucking minutes on each gap.
There's only one thing that was proven during last Sunday's fight. Pacquiao is clearly the most dominant fighter in boxing today. And Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions (which manages Pacquiao's career) has said "Pacquiao is the greatest fighter".
Enough said.

VGH (Very Good HA!)
MANNY PACQUIAO- I would like to take my hat off to Manny Pacquiao for his loyalty. His decision to remain with Solar Sports and GMA-7 only proves that he cannot be easily swayed by a bigger contract and more political clout that ABS-CBN promised. Although at first, he did confirm the transfer to the Kapamilya network but later on backtracked when he learned that the contracts he signed with Solar and GMA were binding and legal until 2011. Well, it's not a guarantee when you're a talent of ABS-CBN and you jump into politics, you're a sure winner. Take Loren Legarda's case.
THE SURVIVING FAMILY OF THE LATE BUBBY DACER- If there's one surviving family that I admire the most it would be none other than Bubby Dacer's family. Eight years after the great PR man was declared lost along with driver Emmanuel Corbito, the family unearthed one of the most intriguing affidavits made by Cesar Mancao. Thanks to the DOJ, Mancao turned his back on his boss Senator Ping Lacson and decided to become a state witness for the crime. Banking on Mancao's statements, the Dacer family decided to file double murder charges against Sen. Ping as of yesterday. I don't know how will the court case will turn out to be but definitely it will be a big blunder to Ping Lacson's presidential bid come 2010.
CESAR MANCAO- Many perceive him to be Ping Lacson's most trusted subordinate along with Michael Ray Aquino until the two of them were implicated in the double abduction/murder of PR man Bubby Dacer and driver Emmanuel Corbito. Mancao had to give up his job as a policeman to hide in the United States allegedly upon the orders of Sen. Ping. Now, he is turning his back on his master to become a state witness in the still unsolved murder case. Time will tell if he really told the truth about Ping and Bigote (Erap) being the mastermind of it's just hearsay.
EUGENIO "GABBY" LOPEZ III- The owner of ABS-CBN has been receiving a lot of flak for allegedly offering Manny Pacquiao guaranteed political clout once Pacman's fights air over ABS-CBN starting with the upcoming bout versus Ricky "Hitman" Hatton. Whether it was true that it was Pacman who came to ABS-CBN and presented himself to become a Kapamilya or it was ABS who offered Pacman, Gabby decided to become a good sport and decided to support Pacman's endeavors after Manny turned his back on the said deal and decided to stay with existing contracts with Solar Sports and GMA-7.
RICHARD GUTIERREZ and ALJUR ABRENICA- The reported incident at the Fiamma bar that happened between the two Kapuso actors last October 2008 caused people to take sides on who was right and who was wrong. Eventually, time heals all wounds. Aljur broke the news that he had patched things up with Richard after a chance encounter at the GMA compound. Both have moved on to greater things, with Richard portraying the masked bandit Zorro on primetime while Aljur now getting lead star status in the Sinenovela remake of the Sharon Cuneta-Gabby Concepcion hit "Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin" opposite love team Kris Bernal.
And so goes our edition of VGH (Very Good HA!). Hope that the good side of the news always comes out no matter how bad it may be.

WHEN FRANCIS MET NATASHA IN HEAVEN
Katulad nga lang ng pagkamatay ni Francis Magalona last March 6, 2009 at age 44, he left behind his wife former actress Pia Arroyo-Magalona and eight kids, two of them actresses Maxene and Saab. Who would ever thought that after Kiko (as he is fondly called) was mourned by Philippine entertainment, it was Hollywood's turn to say goodbye to Natasha Richardson, an acclaimed actress and wife of actor Liam Neeson. Richardson, 45, died from a skiing incident in Canada on March 19, 2009. Most of us don't know her very well, except for one role that we remember from her the most: that of being Lindsay Lohan's mother in "The Parent Trap" in 1998.
Now what do Francis Magalona and Natasha Richardson have in common? Eto aking nadiskubre....
-Both were born to celebrity parents. Francis was born to Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran who both made their mark in Philippines as one of the famous love teams during the '40s. Natasha Richardson was born to actress Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson.
-Both got married to celebrities. Francis married budding actress Pia Arroyo while Natasha won the heart of actor Liam Neeson.
-Both shone in their respective fields of endeavor. Francis became a pioneering rapper/musician in the Philippines and received major awards while Natasha is more known as a theatre actress, and won a Tony award for Best Actress for her role in "Cabaret".
-Both have made their mark in only a handful of movies. Francis was best known for his roles in "Bagets 2" and "Ninja Kids" while Natasha's best known role for most of us is her portrayal of Lindsay Lohan's mom in "Parent Trap".
-Both died at the peak of their careers. Kiko died at age 44 while Natasha died at age 45.
It's ironic that while Philippine showbiz had just mourned the loss of a great Master Rapper, Hollywood has just lost one of the greatest theatre/movie actress.

PAALAM, FRANCIS "PARENG KIKO" MAGALONA (1965-2009)
He started out as an actor via the teen flick "Bagets 2" and was often seen in several films mostly produced by Viva. As a rapper, his breakthrough song "Mga Kababayan" became an unofficial national anthem of sorts to most Filipinos in 1991. And it became a classic of sorts as the years went by. It also paved the way for other Filipino rappers to shine like Andrew E., Michael V., and others. He reinvented himself as a rock singer in 1997 when he came out with an album entitled "Freeman" where his song "Kaleidoscope World" became an anthem for young Filipinos going thru the hassles of high school and college life. He also collaborated with other musicians most notably with Eraserheads ("Superproxy") and Parokya ni Edgar ("Yes Yes Show").
On television, he became visible thru the noontime show "Eat Bulaga". To some he was more known as a VJ (video jock) to two of the largest music channels in the world, MTV and Channel V.
As I am writing my random thoughts about Francis M's life, I'm currently watching an upload on Youtube which featured his last live performance at "Eat Bulaga" dated October 25, 2008. The first time I watched the video I cried. I didn't know na last time ko na pala siyang makitang nagho-host at kumakanta sa "Bulaga". Nakapagtataka kasi tomorrow is the "Final Set" of the Eraserheads second reunion concert. It's the second time of former Eraserheads and now Pupil frontman Ely Buendia to face death of someone close to him. The first time was last August when Ely's mom died 2 days before the first reunion concert. Let's just pray na sana ay walang mangyaring unexpected during the concert. The show must go on for Ely.
To Kiko, we will miss you. We will pray for your family at this darkest moment in time.

5 CITIES IN 14 DAYS (CONCLUSION)
I returned to the city at around 2 pm and stayed mostly at JB's unit to rest. At nighttime I decided to go to Jack's Ridge located at the hilly part of Davao City. Talagang nalula ako sa ganda ng lugar and not only that I was able to see a bird's eye view of the city. I was also entertained by the good food and nice acoustic songs that got me in the mood. As if that was not enough, I was able to have a good banana split dessert at their coffee shop. I went home at around 11 pm.
January 23, 2009 My last day in Davao would have been better had I decided to go to Eagle Sanctuary upon the prodding of JB. But I decided to shop for pasalubong instead and go to SM City Davao to buy it. I was able to buy durian goodies like yema durian and durian polvoron. I also toured the whole mall only to realize that... SM City Cebu is still the best mall for me, followed by SM City Iloilo and SM City Bacolod. But I'll go easy on SM City Davao because I have heard the news that SM will build another mall somewhere in the city that will be bigger and more spacious than the present SM Davao site.
January 24, 2009 I left Davao City early in the morning via the 6:15 am flight. Obviously puno talaga ang flight going to Iloilo primarily because it was Dinagyang weekend fever so I was uncomfortable throughout the flight. Why did I say so? Was it because I was carrying a baggage of guilt on my way home? Or was it because I did not want the travel madness to end?
Whatever it is, I HAVE ACHIEVED MY GOAL during my 5 day travel that ended on January 28 when I went back to Bacolod City to start a new lease on my career. I was given a chance to redeem myself so I have to make the most out of it. For this 3-part piece, I'm ending it with lyrics from The Dawn's popular song-turned movie "Tulad ng Dati".
Halika at lumapit kang muli, tulad ng dati...

5 CITIES IN 14 DAYS (Part 2)
Upon reaching Victoria Plaza Mall, I decided to take my breakfast at Mc Donald's (aka Mickey D's). 30 minutes later after breakfast, my friend JB arrived to pick me up. I stayed at his bachelor's pad somewhere in the heart of the city. Upon going inside his room, I was surprised that everything was in place and that his room pretty much had everything. How I wish we could have trade places (hehehehhe). We were able to catch up on each other's happenings for the past 5 years since we haven't seen each other. We could have stayed all day long however due to lack of sleep the other day, I decided to hit the sack at noontime.
At night time JB and I decided to go to People's Park, where we toured the place full of flora and fauna. I was fascinated by the sculptures that were made by their local artist, whose name escapes me as of the moment. Upon spending time at the park, we chanced upon some necklaces that caught our fancy. We stayed for around 1 and a half hours choosing a lot of necklaces made of different gemstones to different body parts of different wild animals! Some of the sellers even claimed that these necklaces serve as amulets.
After purchasing the necklaces, JB and I ate out at a restaurant serving inasal goods. It's much like Mang Inasal because of unlimited rice but the catch is... the unlimited rice was equivalent to 3 cups of rice that filled out my plate!

5 CITIES IN 14 DAYS (Part 1)
Sure, I was born and lived my first 16 years in Iloilo City and Guimaras. The next 4 years I saw myself studying college in Bacolod with sidetrips in Manila, Baguio, Dumaguete, Batangas, Subic, Aklan, Capiz and Cebu during my first 20 years of existence on earth. After a year of graduation, I decided to work in Manila where I was able to go to Bulacan, Pampanga and Laguna. It has been 4 years since I flew back to Iloilo to work, got married to a Cebuana and raised them in Cebu and worked in Bacolod. And it has been my dream eversince to go down South in Mindanao and witness the places and taste local culture.
That dream came true last January 20, 2009. I decided to start my journey down south.
I started my journey in Silay City, Negros Occidental where the new Bacolod-Silay Airport is located. From Silay, I took a flight to Cebu where I stayed for a night in a hotel near Mactan Airport. I opted to rest and planned my trip to Davao with a lot of itineraries for 3 days. I also took part in world history via CNN where Barack Obama became the 44th US president and the first African-American to govern the most powerful nation in the world. I was able to witness the oath-taking (which was a blunder) and his rousing speech also.
January 21, 2009 I took a flight from Cebu to Zamboanga. From the sky I was able to feel the excitement as the plane was about to touch down at the Zamboanga Airport. Although I only spent an hour in Zambo, I was enthralled by the fact that their airport reminds me of the old Iloilo Airport in Mandurriao. How I wish I could have spent the night in Dapitan or in Dakak and catch a beautiful girl there! Heheheh.. just kidding baka magalit asawa ko.... After an hour in Zamboanga, I boarded a plane to Davao where I was able to spend the next three days relaxing, eating out and.... finding myself.

AIR TRIP
It's about a group of guys going out of town to another state just to save their friend from being busted by his girlfriend over a piece of tape containing his not-so-sexy shenanigan, porking another girl. They go thru a lot of adventures and misadventures while the whole trip goes on.
Actually, that's just part of the synopsis that I saw on the DVD and I have not watched it ever.... but it's actually one of the surprise hits of the new millenium. Since then, movies with a road trip theme have caught my fancy. Too many to mention, but all of them have the same theme: Protagonist gets involved in a conflict, gets his friend to accompany him on a road trip, they get into mishaps along the way and upon reaching their destination, a lot of realizations were met.
Currently, I am starting on an adventure, where no one has ever dared. Thanks to R.E. who got me into it, I have decided to go on a 5-city tour starting from Bacolod to Cebu (1 day) to Zamboanga (1 hour) to Davao (3 days) and Iloilo (3 days). Sounds goofy ayt? But don't worry, once I have completed the trip, a lot of stories will unfold.
Stay tuned.

Lucky '09 na kaya?
First of all, I would like to apologize if it's only now that I have decided to post an entry. I was suppose to write my last entry for 2008 but due to time constraints, my thoughts went down the drain and I opted to join my friend Paul instead in his radio work and the recent Matt Monro, Jr. concert in Bacolod.
I would like to thank the Lord for giving me a chance to turn a new leaf last year. 2008 was a special year because this is the year that I became a father to Horizon Shane Gamboa who by the way is already turning 8 months old next week. How time flies! I also had the opportunity to work in Bacolod City and enjoy the fruits of my labor while I'm working... hehehe!
However this does not stop here. Like an eagle, I intend to spread my wings and move on to other things. I have been in the call center for 5 years but I am itching to work on a different environment. I am a Mass Communications graduate but this time I want to work in line with my course.
Maybe a radio stint or TV or movies? Hope I get lucky!

STAY AWAKE
I could fall in love with you
But it's not my fault
'Cause you are the prettiest thing I've seen
When you're fallen asleep in my arms
Oh my, oh my, oh my
So just stay awake for me
'Cause I can't fall asleep
So just stay awake for me
I'll give you anything
To just stay awake, make love to me
So maybe all you'll ever need
Is right inside these arms
Whole and you're so damn tired and conditional
As you're fallen asleep in the dark
Oh I, oh my, oh my
So just stay awake for me
'Cause I can't fall asleep
So just stay awake for me
I'll give you anything
To just stay awake, make love to me
There's nothing I won't try
To keep your body close to mine
And baby hold on tight
It's a wil open ride
Give me all you got tonight
And stay awake with me, stay awake
Give it all you got
So just stay awake for me
'Cause I can't fall asleep
So just stay awake for me
I'll give you anything
To just stay awake, make love to me
Oh, just stay awake make love to me
Make love to me
Make love to me
Make love to me

JUST TELL ME WHERE TO START
I really can't comprehend why change comes all of a sudden. First, I was yanked out of the billing department along with 14 of my wavemates because the account where we belonged closed. Then I suddenly found solace in the two of them because we belonged in the technical account. The rest were assigned to another billing account.
Just as when I was about to create a new set of friends my wife was suddenly attacked with post-partum depression and vented her ire on my set of friends. No matter how I defended my case before my friends they just left me in a huff... without even giving me piece of advice or whatever form of support. In short I was left out in the cold.
The good thing about this is that although I don't have close friends at the office, it has made me more careful about choosing the people to socialize with, and share my problems with. I also would like to thank my true friend... Paul Moles for sticking with me through thick and thin. And I also would like to thank myself for being strong. Talagang nakakatawa ang buhay...
For now, I leave you guys with this song by the Backstreet Boys....
FORCES OF NATURE
Opposites attract, chemicals react
When I look at you
Deserts need the rain,
Fires feed the flame
Can't deny what's true
Can't help the way I feel(Cuz you got me, yeah)
All these elements are real
They come from deep within me
I would move heaven and earth for this fire
For this ocean I'll fight for you
Let this emotional wind take us higher
Where there's nothing we can do
I love youYes, I love you
This power is greater
Than the forces of nature
We don't have no walls
The beauty of it all
Is waiting in your eyes
Breathing on my skin
Just let me take it in
Under an open sky
Can't help the way I feel
(Cuz you got me, yeah)you know i cant
All these elements are real
They come from deep within me
I would move heaven and earth for this fire
For this ocean I'll fight for you
Let this emotional wind take us higher
Where there's nothing we can do
I love youYes, I love you
This power is greater
Than the forces of nature
Nothing is greater than the energy I get from loving you
Sooner or later
It'll take us to forever
I would move heaven and earth for this fire
For this ocean I'll fight for you
Let this emotional wind takes u higher
Where there's nothing we can do
I would move heaven and earth for this fire
For this ocean I'll fight for you
Let this emotional wind take us higher
Where there's nothing we can do
I love you
Yes, I love you baby
I love you baby,
This power is greater
Than the forces of nature

WHEN GREAT ACTORS GO
According to him though he got great accolades in that field, the financial benefit was not within reach. So he continued acting in the mainstream (mostly in telenovelas) until he had enough of the showbiz charade.
It's not only Michael de Mesa whom we're going to miss on the big screen. Joaquin Phoenix, the younger brother of deceased heartthrob River Phoenix, has also decided to quit acting in the movies. What made Joaquin quit was the fact that he had fallen in love with music and would rather sing than act. Deja vu? Jericho Rosales had made that statement first, so it's nothing new.
If I recall it right, Jericho released an album with his band called Jeans but their music failed to garner audiences even if Echo had a wide fanbase. The question right now is... will Joaquin Phoenix be able to successfully convince his audience that he can be taken seriously as a musician?
Whatever may be the result of their sabbaticals, may Michael de Mesa and Joaquin Phoenix always remember the age-old saying: "Once an actor always an actor."
If they don't come back there will be other people who can fill in their shoes... and I'm one of them! Ngak!

UYYY.... BATI NA LAHAT! ACTUALLY, 'DI PA LAHAT
-"FOR THE FIRST TIME"-
The movie between hot Kapuso property Richard Gutierrez and Mega's Kapamilya daughter KC Concepcion produced by Star Cinema. Shown last week of August.
-JOBERT SUCALDITO AND JOHN LAPUZ-
The two gay hosts belonging to warring showbiz talkshows "The Buzz" and "Showbiz Central" meet up at the birthday party of Pilar Mateo and kissed (literally!) with make up!... I mean... kiss and make up! Occurred last Tuesday.
and the main event...
-JOEY DE LEON and WILLIE REVILLAME-
"Eat Bulaga" and "Wowowee" became a venue for the two hosts to trade barbs against each others' networks, and even personal lives. But after all the trading of barbs... Joey and Willie finally kissed and made up before the people at Embassy where the Supreme Awards was held. My reaction? All's well that ends well.... but the tira will continue...
Actually, I got the prediction right that Joey and Willie's barbs against each other is not really personal as what people think. Willie doesn't have any personal grudges against Joey and so does Joey. And what made me say so? They have one common person linked to them.... none other than...
HELEN VELA (the late great Helen Vela)- Joey's contemporary in radio and television broadcasting popular for "Lovingly Yours Helen" and also Willie's mother-in-law (when he was still married to Princess Punzalan.)
So, what's the moral lesson in the network wars? Never take anything seriously! (Unless you're a couch potato and you're out of touch with reality)

Well, I'm definitely going to miss everyone at Wave 5.1 Time Warner Cable Carolinas, you know who you are guys... but wait... I still have 3 girls from that batch left with me at the NHD....

J.R.S.: Just Read Sh**
Anybody who happens to have a package sent thru a local courier, just course it through LBC, Air 21 or DHL. I will never, ever recommend JRS Express to you guys. I've had a harrowing experience there.
In good faith, I sent a package of milk and chocolates for my wife and son to Mandaue, Cebu and entrusted them over to JRS. Apparently the guys told me that they will be sending the package in just 24 hours. This was last Tuesday. Last Wednesday, my wife texted me that she did not receive the package. Thinking that there were uncontrolled circumstances, I gave it 2 days more. But still the package didn't arrive at the address I provided.
Oh well, as a result, I went to the JRS office in downtown Bacolod. And I really felt like exploding after I told them what had happened. My cousin called me and told me that the package arrived in Cebu, the only thing different is, they don't know the location! Imagine I was enraged because my wife had sent a package to the address concerned via LBC last Christmas... and JRS doesn't know?!
What could JRS do to improve their faltering service? First, they have to automate everything... from data collection to the tracking stage. When I went there, there was no computer in sight, no assurance that the info will be encoded properly. Second, have internet access to the tracking on real-time status. Imagine when a staffer from JRS told me to wait for a week to track my package. What?! Oh well... some dumb-a** sh** there....
If JRS is listening.... you know what guys, you JUST READ SH**!

A SONG DEDICATED TO ALL CLOSET GAYS (SPECIALLY TO EVDJ)
wag aksayahin ang panahon ninyo
di nyo na ako mababago
ganito na talaga ako hoooh
merese (8x)
ayokong pumasok sa us navy
ayoko rin namang magpakalalake
simple lang ang gusto ko
pabayaan niyo na lang akong ganito
B-A-D-A-F!
badaf, badaf forever
kami ay badaf
tsura ay lalake
puso'y pambabae
badaf forever, badaf forever!
o mommy ko o daddy ko
wag aksayahin ang panahon ninyo
imposible nang ako ay mababago
ganito na talaga ako hoooh
merese (8x)
ayokong umibig sa babae
ayoko ring matawag na lalake
simple lang ang gusto ko
pabayaan niyo lang ako ganito
B-A-D-A-F!
badaf, badaf forever
kami ay badaf
tsura ay lalake
puso'y pambabae
badaf forever, badaf forever, badaf forever!
B-A-D-A-F!
badaf, badaf forever
kami ay badaf
